Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. You can currently join Parentkind as a school member for free at https://www.parentkind.org.uk/join/find-your-school
-
We encourage you to ask your school if they would like a costume donation before you request a donation of costumes. They might only want them for certain children, or might not be able to handle the logistics of distributing them to children etc. We’re very keen to limit the environmental impact by your not requesting costumes that will not be used, and also keen to maximise the number that reach children who need them the most.
-
You can request up to the number of children in your school, we we recommend requesting a number that reflects your FSM %. Costume donations are subject to supply and demand and you may end up with less than you request, but we will not send you more than you request. You don’t get what you don’t ask for!
-
The last date for costume requests will be February 14th. Although stock may all be allocated before this date and so we encourage you to place your request as soon as practical.
-
You can request donations of costumes within age-ranges and gender expression. It’s not possible to order for specific children, but you can offer costumes to children in a way that works for your setting.
-
The costumes are being donated to Parentkind for distribution to its members free of charge.
-
The offer is intended to support imaginative play at school and home all year round. Costumes requested by PTAs, Parent Councils, or Schools should become the property of the school and should not be sold. The school may however choose to allow children (especially those whose parents may not be able to afford to buy their children dressing up clothes for home) to take the costumes home to maximise the fun and enjoyment gained from this donation.
-
‘All Dressed Up’ is the name of this campaign, the aim of which is to donate costumes for use by children who’s families struggle to afford them.
-
Successful costume donations will be made to your school and will be sent to your school for the attention of the Headteacher or Principal. Please make sure that they are aware that you have requested a costume donation.
-
Please reach out to Parentkind on info@parentkind.org in the first instance. Costume requests will be received by Parentkind and following due diligence (checking the costume request details match your PTA/School etc) will be forwarded to Rubies in batches for distribution.
-
Costumes will be distributed directly from Rubies warehouses. If you have any questions related to the distribution of your order, please contact Rubies using the form on this contact page.
-
World Book Day (The charity) should not be contacted about your donation request. They’re a small team that work magic, but will be focusing on delivering a great World Book Day 2025. Order related questions should be sent to Parentkind, distribution questions such as ‘it says my order has been sent but it has not been received’ should be sent to Rubies.
-
Rubies is keen that their donation benefits the highest need schools. At the moment we cannot donate to schools with less than 25% of their children qualifying for Free School Meals but Parentkind will let other schools know if they qualify in the future.
-
Priority will be given to full Parentkind members meeting the Free School Meals criteria in the first instance. Should those members not request all 100,000 outfits, Parentkind may open the campaign to other PTAs, Parent Councils and Schools.
-
Parentkind is the membership body for more than 14,000 parent groups and also supports 9,500 additional schools. Why not join Parentkind at Parentkind at www.parentkind.org
-
Sure. Click donate at the top of this page. Parentkind is taking donations on behalf of World Book Day for this campaign. Why not donate £1 for every costume you receive?
-
World Book Day has agreed to Parentkind members using its logo and other materials free of charge. Parentkind will share a set of these in its members area in January for you to use.
-
Parentkind and World Book Day would appreciate it if when fundraising on World Book Day you fundraise to support projects, programmes and provide materials that support children’s reading enjoyment. This might be library books or materials, or a reading programme (for example).
-
That's up to your school. They may wish to provide one or more boxes in each classroom, have a dressing up room, or send a costume home with children who need them the most.
-
100,000 costumes is a massive number, but there are more than 4 million children living in poverty in the UK. Why not request what you need to support those children who need them most, so that other children living in poverty at other schools can benefit. Parentkind will continually update on stock levels and so you might then place a second request later once as many schools as possible have had a chance to order what they need.
-
We will endeavour to inform you by February 15th 2025.
-
It is intended that successful requests will be despatched for arrival by 26th February 2025. This may change and so please keep an eye on your emails, including your junk folder.
